How to clean my car seat’s buckles

Buckles that don't fasten easily always mean defective, it may just need thorough cleaning.

The following are the basic steps to guide you on the process. Please note that each and every car seat brand has its own manual and instructions to follow, so make sure to read them, too.

  1. After removing the buckles from the child safety seat following the user’s manual, place the buckle under warm running water for five minutes.

  2. Do not soak the buckle or use any cleaning solutions as it may damage the performance of the buckles.

  3. Test the buckles by fastening and unfastening the buckle tongue until you hear a loud ‘click’. If after several tries the buckles don’t click, pops out and still feel sluggish, repeat the cleaning process and test again until there’s the loud click.*

  4. Dry the buckles with clean towels and you’re ready to install them back.

  5. If you think that the buckles don’t fasten tightly after cleaning or something seems to be not working as it should be, it's important to contact the manufacturer immediately to seek assistance in arranging a replacement. This is a safety issue.

ACRI Tip: Always wipe clean parts of your little one’s car seat whenever you can to ensure any grime and stains will not become a permanent part of the car safety seat.
